The Simple Explanation

Charles Crawford, an electrical engineer based in Ohio, contracted FieroGloW to engineer and supply massive, floating rings of pure Xenon plasma. The challenge? The plasma industry hits a physical wall when trying to make these shapes at scale.


We initially tasked a well-known supplier with the build, but they failed completely when attempting to scale past a tiny 9.5 cm diameter. To break this 20+ cm size barrier, FieroGloW bypassed standard glassblowers entirely. We independently sourced a specialized fabrication partner capable of creating custom industrial molds. We are now developing these molds to cast the first true 3-liter Xenon prototypes. It is a massive leap forward in plasma display volume and proves FieroGloW can engineer solutions where traditional suppliers fail.

The Complex Explanation

The Gravity Xenon Donut Reactor project exposes the severe manufacturing limitations of standard Toroidal Inductively Coupled Plasma (TICOP) vessels. Commissioned by Ohio-based electrical engineer Charles Crawford, FieroGloW was tasked with delivering a high-volume, heavy-gas toroidal reactor.

Initial prototyping attempts with established industry suppliers revealed critical fabrication bottlenecks; the supplier was entirely unable to scale their free-blown toroidal vessels beyond a 9.5 cm diameter micro-volume without structural collapse. Subsequent attempts to push their fabrication process to the required 20+ cm threshold resulted in catastrophic failure.

To solve this, FieroGloW pivoted to a bespoke manufacturing paradigm. By independently sourcing a highly specialized fabrication partner, we engineered a custom mold-based production process. This structural shift allows for the successful casting of the 3-liter, 20+ cm prototype, overcoming the thermodynamic hurdles and vacuum stress associated with high-mass Xenon at volume. Securing this custom-molded architecture clears the runway for our next technical milestones: successfully scaling the TICOP geometry to 5-liter and, ultimately, 10-liter systems.



  Institutional-Grade Plasma Architecture: The FieroGloW Seamless Torus


The Precedent: The $17,000 Institutional "Altator Prototype" Historically, constructing a toroidal reaction chamber for advanced plasma dynamics has been an exercise in massive institutional spending. A recent foundational engineering project at MIT, documented in 2025, attempted to solve this complex geometry for a plasma outreach device called "Altator".

  • The total cost of their system was approximately $17,000, excluding labor costs.

  • The glass vacuum vessel was the project's largest cost driver, totaling $10,191 when the glass was purchased in 2022.

  • Because manufacturing a continuous glass torus is exceptionally difficult, their vessel had to be constructed out of four separate glass quadrants.

  • These quadrants were pieced together with O-rings and secured using ChemGlass clamps, adding roughly $1,400 to the cost just for the clamping and port fittings.

Furthermore, our vessels are specifically optimized to be driven flawlessly by our custom Class E resonant inverter architecture, ensuring highly choreographed, stable plasma discharges without the need for massive institutional hardware.

Not a Consumer Toy: FieroGlow apparatus are classified as High-Voltage Scientific Display Devices intended for educational, artistic, and demonstration use only. They are not standard consumer luminaires. 

RF Interference: These devices utilize Toroidal Inductively Coupled Plasma (TICP) technology which operates at radio frequencies. While shielded, they may generate RF interference in strict accordance with the laws of physics. Use away from sensitive medical equipment or unshielded electronics. 

Thermal Warning: Glass surfaces may reach temperatures exceeding 140°F (60°C) during prolonged operation. Always use the provided FieroGlow Thermal Wool Interface or approved insulated gloves, safety handling equipment & bases. Never touch the unshielded discharge coils and follow glass contact safety  while active. 

Modification: Opening the base or altering the driver circuit voids all safety certifications and may present an electrical shock hazard.

Optical Safety: Respect the Photon. While most noble gases (Krypton, Argon) are soft on the eyes, our Metal Halide and High-Energy Salt flasks are different. They produce High-Intensity Discharge (HID) flares that can temporarily blind or fatigue the naked eye.
